Modus 1.07

Modus

Hi ,

Modus is more than just a software for taking notes; it's a powerful framework for understanding and generating knowledge. By breaking down complex ideas into individual, interconnected notes, this method enables a deeper comprehension and a more creative synthesis of information.

With that being said, we are extremely excited to announce the release of Tags! Tags are the second major feature representing the ‘organising’ aspect The Knowledge Lifecycle. Tags in Modus act like labels or themes, helping you categorise and connect your notes based on common themes or characteristics.

Imagine you're reading the book 'Meditations' by Marcus Aurelius and you're picking up on some key themes. With tags, you can label parts of your notes with tags like “Wisdom”, “Stoicism”, or “Leadership”. This way, you link your thoughts and the material you're studying in a clear, organised manner.

Tag Library

So, you might be wondering: How do I decide whether to use tags or modules to organise my notes in Modus?

Here’s a straightforward way to think about it: Tags are great for tagging specific characteristics or types (like #stoicism for a philosophical note, #research for a detailed study, or #innovation for ideas on new technologies). On the other hand, modules are perfect for grouping notes around broader topics or subjects (like "Philosophical Theories," "Tech Innovations," or "Environmental Studies").

Adding a tag into an existing note

If you're dealing with notes that are very similar or need categorising, start with tags. If you’re diving deep into a subject and want to connect various notes and ideas, go for a module.

For instance, you could use tags like #scientists (such as Newton or Curie), #scientific-theories (like gravity or evolution), and #historical-events (like the Moon landing or the discovery of penicillin). Then, you can visualise how these tags interlink on a "Scientific Breakthroughs" module board. This approach helps you see the big picture and remember the details of what you’re studying or researching.
